Meet Report

22nd to 24th September 2023 - Craggan Outdoors centre, Loch Tay (South side)

On Friday, Claire and I went up Meall nan Caorach and Meall Reamhar as a run from Amulree, whilst Doug and Rhi did a speedy ascent of Ben Vorlich & Stuc a'Chroin, beating their ETA at the bunkhouse by around 3 hours. Brandon was really unlucky - as he had hurt his knee on Meall Ghaordaidh that day he opted to head home rather than joining the rest of the group in the bunkhouse. It was our first stay at the Craggan Outdoors centre - lots of space, plenty bathrooms and beds and a nice big communal area upstairs made for a great stay.

On Saturday, Allan, Rebecca, Perry & Kate climbed Beinn Dearg (Corbett) from Innerwick in Glen Lyon with fantastic views across to Glencoe & Ben Nevis. Perry then headed off to climb the second Corbett (Cam Chreag) from Innerwick while Allan, Rebecca & Kate went on to climb Meall a Mhuic (Graham). Mike B, Doug, Rhi, Claire, Mark, Tom, Anna and myself did a round of the Ben Lawers 5 from the Ben Lawers car park. Great views along superb ridges on the way out - and the rather monotonous return was broken up by a poetry reading, otter poo sniffing and a musical lecture about animal vocalisation. We still don't know what the fox says.

In the evening, Claire, Rhi, Doug, Martha and Mike B went for a chilly dip in Loch Tay.

Sunday presented itself with low clouds and drizzle. Anna did around 90% of all the cleaning (thank you!) whilst Becks managed to sleep through all of it. Mark, Anna and Mike B then went to Cave of Caerbannog (aka the Cave of the Killer Rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail) before heading up Ben Ledi. Allan, Perry, Rebecca & Kate did the Bracklinn Falls circular walk near Callander. Doug, Rhi, Claire and myself ran up Creag Each from the south. The mizzle, ming and lack of enthusiasm from Doug, Claire and me thwarted the original plan to also include Creag Ruadh, much to the disappointment of Rhi who still would have been super keen, and a dip in Loch Earn was had instead. Doug & Rhi's car then required AA's attention involving a temporary fix with cable ties before they could make it back to Edinburgh.
