31st December 2008 to 4th January 2009 - Corran Bunkhouse, Corran Narrows, Loch Linnhe (New Year meet)

Meet Report – New Year 2008

Corran was the venue for our New Year gathering for the second year on the trot, the only difference being we had moved to the larger bunkhouse and the weather this year was, well not to put too fine a point on it, brilliant. Yep you read that right, brilliant. Everybody took off in different directions, munros, corbetts, climbs, an impressive list was compiled in glorious sunshine, morning frosts, cloud inversions and iron hard neve on the climbs. In no particular order the hills included Streap, Bidean, the Aonachs, the Ben, Carn Mor Dearg, Ring of Steall, Sgurr Elide Mor, Beinn Odhar Mor and Beag and many many more.

The climbing conditions were excellent, wasn’t a huge amount of snow but what was there was rock hard and perfect for climbing. A number of climbs were completed, the highlight (well for Ewan anyway) was the New Years Day ascent of Point Five Gully with Fiona M, which was reported to be in fabulous condition and only one other party on the route.  Mike and Fiona had headed up with them on the walk in and they did Tower Gully and arrived on the summit very early morning with not a soul about. Another EMC party consisting of Harry, Helen, Gillian, Ron & Anne C also did Tower Gully later in the day. Richard would also have done it, however he forgot his socks, retreated to the bunkhouse and joined myself, Alison W and Penny on an excellent day on Bidean. Other routes climbed throughout the meet were Glovers Chimney, Number Five Gully, Number Two Gully, South Gully, White Shark & Forgotten Twin.

All too soon it was time to head home, which coincided with the weather breaking, now that doesn’t happen too often.
