When and where are meets?
With the exception of holiday weekends and New Year, the accommodation is typically booked for Friday and Saturday nights. We have an annual day walk which is close to Edinburgh, otherwise venues are chosen across Scotland and occasionally the Lake District, Snowdonia and further afield. See our current meets programme for more details.
Please note that when we are staying in bunkhouses/huts/hostels, dormitories are usually mixed unless the accommodation provider prescribes single-sex occupancy.
How do I book a place on a meet?
The booking rules for all meets apply equally to members and non-members. If you are not a member yet we will ask you to pay the meet fee in advance.
The committee member responsible for the meet will take bookings by text, telephone or email from 6pm on the date advertised. Telephone bookings should not be made after 10pm. You can also book on behalf of one other person.
If you book on a meet and then cancel, your fee is forfeit unless a replacement is found.
Please note: The meet organiser has the right to not accept a booking on a meet from a potential new member if they judge that person not to have the requisite skills/experience.
What happens if a meet is oversubscribed?
Bookings are taken by the meet organiser. All bookings are given equal priority if they are made on the night bookings open (between 6pm and 10pm please!) and if the meet is over-subscribed a ballot is held. After the first night, places are assigned on a first come, first served basis.
The meets organiser will email the list of attendees and any reserves will be given the opportunity – in turn – to take any places which are freed up.
What should I bring?
In addition to maps, all your normal walking or climbing gear and any safety equipment. The meets organiser will send information about the meet venue and whether you need to bring any gear such as a sleeping bag or sleeping mat.
For camping meets you will need a tent, stove etc as well.
Bring enough food and drink for the entire meet.
What’s the schedule on weekend trips?
There’s no set programme during meets. Plans for each day’s activities are usually discussed the night before, and people divide into small groups so that they can walk or climb with other people with similar aims for the day, or go solo. The meet organiser will try to make sure you link up with a suitable group, but you are responsible for your own activities and for your own safety. Self-sufficiency is key!
How do I find out more?
Contact our Membership Secretary and tell them a bit about yourself and your interests/experience. They can add you to the mailing list and answer any questions you may have.
Alternatively, come along to the pub night to meet some members. This takes place on the first Tuesday of the month at the Red Squirrel on Lothian Road from 8pm. Click here for a map.

How is transport organised?
Transport to and from meets is usually by private car. We try to keep costs and environmental impact to a minimum by sharing lifts where possible; many of the meet venues are also accessible by public transport. If you can offer a lift/if you need a lift, please email the members list or let the meet organiser know.
