The EMC Glen Prosen meet was a small select affair with just 6 attendees. Friday nights drive north saw some torrential showers which were pretty unpleasant to drive through and we all very much hoped we wouldn’t encounter these on a hill as you would end up very wet if you did.
Saturday dawned bright and sunny so everyone headed for the hills. Tony, Shirley and Ed headed over to Glen Ilsa where they did a circuit over Monamenach, Creag Leacach, Glas Maol and Little Glas Maol before returning to Glen Ilsa via Glen Brighty. Tim also had a bit of drive round to Edzell to add Mount Battock to his Corbett count. Mike and Fiona had the shortest drive heading to the end of Glen Prosen where they took a slightly esoteric route to Badandun Hill and then on to Mayar and Driesh to complete the circuit.
Amazingly despite a rather pessimistic forecast and some rather ominous looking skys at times all 3 parties stayed pretty much dry. Various wildlife were observed including hare, rabbit, weasel, owls, red grouse, black grouse, deer.
In the evening Mike disappeared at one stage (I confess I thought he’d give to bed early
again!) to return after a wee guddle in the forest with several porcini.
On Sunday Tim headed for Glen Isla and Glenshee to add Monamenach and Ben Gulabin to his Corbett count. Tony, Ed and Shirley headed to Glen Clova to look at Blair House with Tony planning to head up The Goet after this. Mike and Fiona headed to Kirrie Hill for some sport climbing. They did 7 routes before being lured to 88 in Kirriemuir for coffee and cake. About 20 mins after arriving at the café the heavens opened big time so they were happy they’d stopped climbing at the right time. 88 does amazing brownies and even more amazing home made chocolates, well worth a visit if you’re in Kirriemuir.
Despite the small number of us it was great weekend with weather a lot better than originally forecast making it even better.
Thanks to Fiona R for writing the meet report and collecting the money on this meet!
