17th to 19th January 2025 – West Highland Lodge, Kinlochleven

A nice time seemed to be had by all at this one (despite a disappointing lack of winter conditions….felt like late spring on the tops!)

Possibly a record number of hills getting bagged on this meet (..according to Alison C …who is wise in the ways of such things).

On Friday Martha and Iain R managed to open the EMC score by climbing Beinn Mhic Mhonaidh….apparently it was wet/misty and wildlife free and they didn’t see anything( ..nope nothing).  Another intrepid EMCer( Claire H) also climbed a couple of hills on the way up..  and after a suitably alpine start went up the two Munros at Loch Treig, Chno Dearg and Stob Coire Sgriodain. No views but did meet a local man who was feeding his tame partridge . Now that’s something that you don’t see every day…

A pretty dreary start weather wise but hopefully better luck on Saturday!

After a  convivial night in the hostel a better day dawned , starting  with a mass assault on the Eastern Mamores (14 people in 5 different groups) With good conditions underfoot and some great views to be had as the cloud stayed mainly off the tops.

Andrew W and Sara B meanwhile opted to head for the Grey Corries , Shireen and Keith headed over Ghlas Bheinn (then a walk out by the Blackwater Dam) , Joris and Anna C had a big day out on The Ring of Steall, Kate and Emma climbed Mam na Gualainn walking back along the West Highland way. Not forgetting the intrepid Tim D who headed to Glencoe and Stob Coire Screamhach. Good one!

Another sociable night in the Hostel and then another round of activity on Sunday with Doug, Andrew, Julia ,Balandino and Rhi heading to Beinn A’ Chreachain and Beinn Achalladair

Also on Sunday, Alison, Fiona M, Joris, Anna C, Hamish and Martha went up Beinn Dorain. Martha failed to convince most people to continue on to Beinn an Dothaidh – Hamish was the only one who came with her, but he also didn’t have a choice as she was giving him a ride back home.

Keith, Kate and Mark headed to the Glencoe Ski centre to climb Meall Bhuide and Creise…followed by coffee/scones etc

Claire H swam around Seagull Island which was idyllic but made all the more so by the two otters who swam past shortly afterwards! .. then going up two Grahams at Fassfern which were unremarkable except for their position beside Gulvain.

A lot of activity on this one!

All in all , another cracking EMC meet and thanks to all who came along on this one!( there were a lot of you…including Gatecrashers Inc…..yes you lot!)

Cheers folks
